Problem with AMD Ryzen 7 5800x failing to power on
I'm working on fixing a system that unexpectedly stopped booting. I'm unsure what my next course of action should be.
The hardware includes a Ryzen 7 5800x CPU, an Asus TUF gaming X570 with Wi-Fi plus Mobo, two 8-pin Dd4 Corsair Vengeance RAM sticks, an EVGA 750 G5 power supply, a Samsung 1TB 870 EVO SSD, and an RTX 3080 NVidia Founders Edition graphics card. About a month ago, I upgraded the CPU from a 3600X to the 5800X, which required updating the BIOS. All tests came back normal. Recently, the system failed to boot after a blue dram light appeared. I tried using the old CPU and it worked perfectly. Connections were checked, RAM tested in another system, and the BIOS updated again—yet the issue persisted. When switching PSUs, the system would briefly click but still wouldn't power on. I noticed a short in the 24-pin motherboard connector. Although I can start the system with the old CPU and a new power cable, I'm unsure where to focus troubleshooting next. Could the 5800X be faulty? Is there an alternative power source on the motherboard that the 3600X doesn't need but the 5800X does? There are no visible signs of damage or burnt pins. The power caps near the CPU aren't showing any obvious issues. I might consider a burn test on the 3600X, but would that ensure the new 5800X won't fail? Should I replace the motherboard or just get a new 5800X?
