When I check speedtest.net, the results are lower than expected. My router is too distant from my PC, and I’m using a TP-LINK TL-WN881ND card. Should I tweak the settings or try another driver?

Your connection quality depends on how far and blocked you are from the router. The promised speeds apply only when the router and your device are right next to each other. For stronger performance, adjust antenna placement, use better equipment, or relocate the router to a more suitable spot—but achieving those perfect speeds is unlikely.

Please share your current internet speeds and what you're paying for. Also, let me know the router model you're using. I'll clarify that 802.11ac isn't the same as 802.11n and that you can't achieve 802.11ac with a WiFi card lacking that support.

Router type: NETGEAR R7000 I’m experiencing inconsistent downloads—sometimes around 60 Mbps, other times much lower at 25 Mbps. I’m specifically aiming for 802.11n performance and expect no higher speeds.

Adjusting a few drivers improved performance, now I'm seeing more stable 55mb/s. I'll experiment with more options to reach even better speeds.

I used WiFiman on my iPad, and positioning it near the PC boosted my download speed by about five times. Edited November 30, 2020 by Satyrn clarification

The WiFi might be blocked by the case itself. Try turning the PC around, making sure the back isn’t facing the router. Using a decent 802.11ac adapter with external antennas can improve the signal and help you position it where reception is stronger.
