Problem with 2010 MBP High Sierra trackpad configuration.
Problem with 2010 MBP High Sierra trackpad configuration.
Hi! I’m using a 2010 MBP with Sierra still installed. I got the laptop without a hard drive, and thanks to a friend I received a bootable USB with High Sierra. After installing it, everything worked smoothly until I tried to access the trackpad settings. They weren’t showing up, even though the trackpad was functional and responsive. Since the laptop had a large battery, some people suggested the issue might be from a damaged trackpad cable. Because I didn’t like the performance on this older machine, I upgraded to Sierra, which I installed fresh without any backup. Once that was set up, I could finally reach the trackpad settings and adjust gestures. Now I have 8GB of RAM and am considering upgrading to High Sierra again via the app store, but not through a bootable USB. Will the trackpad settings appear after switching to High Sierra? Why didn’t they show initially? The ribbon cable seems okay since it works under Sierra. Have anyone else faced this problem? Would you recommend staying on Sierra or moving to High Sierra instead? Your specs: 2010 MBP, 248GB SSD, 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM. Thanks a lot!
The mid-2010 model is recognized for the enlarged battery pressing against the trackpad. A client with a similar problem couldn't click the trackpad, though tap functions and gestures remained functional. He was using 10.6 Snow Leopard, and after formatting his computer and updating to High Sierra, only trackpad actions except clicking were affected. I recommend a fresh installation, as it might be a corrupted setting.
The battery replacement seems to have resolved the issue, but the trackpad settings were missing during the initial clean install of High Sierra. It appears the setup process might have been affected. I’m considering an update via the App Store since it’s now available for Sierra.
