Problem when overclocking I7-8700K
Hi, im kind of new at overclocking and i have seen several guides how to overclock i7-8700K with Strix Z370 but it seems like what ever i do it wont be stable even at 4,8Ghz and 1,3Vcore.
Im lost, i dont know what to do, is some of my parts wrong, or do i have bad airflow?
My setup:
Cabinet: Phanteks Eclipse P400
PSU: EVGA G2
MB: Asus Strix Z370-H
CPU: I7-8700K
RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200 C14 DC - 16GB
Cooler: Corsair H115i RPG
SDD: Evo 860
GPU: Asus Strix GTX 1080TI
H115i is placed in front and 2 corsair ML120 in top og cabinet, and 1 at the back side
It seems you selected the correct components and are curious about the temperatures. Airflow appears to be fine thanks to the top vent and exhaust fan. The stability at 4.7ghz was questioned by others, possibly due to the motherboard's limitations for overclocking. It looks like everything else is working well except the board itself. If the setup is correct and thermal paste was applied properly, the issue likely lies with the board.
I have a very similar rig with the same CPU and motherboard, a GTX 1080 and a 970 Pro for GPU and SSD respectively. My CPU reaches 5 easily and I think it could stay stable at higher speeds since my H150i Pro RGB can handle that heat. The motherboard isn't the issue (unless it's faulty). Bent pins or dirty pads on the CPU might limit overclocking potential.
