Problem! The RTX 3080 isn’t showing anything anymore.
I’m facing an unusual problem with my RTX 3080. I recently upgraded from a 6700K Skylake to a 7700X Ryzen system. Earlier, I moved to a 13th-gen Intel build, but oxidation issues led me to switch to AMD. For about a week everything worked smoothly—until now. The GPU ran fine initially, and I even reinstalled Windows to start over. I left Steam running overnight for downloads, but upon waking, there was no display output from the card. The system boots normally, with the Windows sound through speakers, yet no signal reaches the monitor. I’ve tried various fixes: changed cables, tested multiple monitors, re-seated the GPU in different PCIe slots, reset CMOS, and even installed a GTX 960 that works perfectly. The RTX 3080 still doesn’t display anything there. It spins up fans and shows RGB lights, but no video signal appears. The card is out of warranty, and Gigabyte isn’t offering repairs. This feels like a hardware issue—possibly VRAM or the PCIe controller. I’ve run stress tests on the PSU and CPU, both passing. (The 7700X won’t boot at all.) It’s frustrating after investing so much in this upgrade. Any suggestions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
From your words, it seems you've verified the 3080 is no longer viable. I don't know what the outcome will be, but you might attempt to replace the vBIOS on it. After all, why not give it another shot?
You had a GTX 960, right? I thought you still had it. You could move the 960 into the top slot on your motherboard while keeping the 3080 in the bottom slot. In Windows, just install or replace the vBIOS via the command prompt. It’s pretty straightforward—usually takes about five minutes if you have the right vBIOS ready.
Several early 30 series cards now support the latest vBIOS version. This mainly happened after the introduction of ResizableBAR.
Take a few notes; display on another GPU to understand what you're doing. Consider using the iGPU in your CPU or your GTX 960 since your 3080 isn't showing video right now—keep it in the top slot and the 3080 in the bottom slot, but still need access to flash it. Your 3080 could have two vBIOS versions—a silent one and an OC version (if available). If you have both, switch them to see if it helps; maybe just one is corrupt. You might need to update both to function properly. Check for official vBIOS updates on the driver site for your card—use one from here if an update exists, or find the vBIOS yourself and overwrite as needed.
