I've gathered more details now. Doom Eternal keeps me frustrated. Sometimes I see around 40 fps, other times it hits 120+ fps. I can check the menu—it works if it stays under my 144fps limit. When it drops to 50 fps in the menu, I have to stop it and retry. Most of the time it runs smoothly, except for this game. Playing other titles doesn't cause issues. It seems Doom Eternal is the one with the problem. Is there a fix available? This really got me going. I spent an hour last night trying to make it work and still couldn’t. Also, I’m using the newest NVIDIA drivers and used ddu. I’ve tried everything possible without success.

Just in case it helps someone. I figured this out. It IS a bug in the game. It's a known one. I was googling the wrong terms. I tried googling "doom eternal low fps in menu" and that brought up a redit page about it. The problem is trying to run ultra nightmare texture pool with dlss on, on a 6/8gb card. That what causes it. To fix it, set the texture pool to ultra. That fixes the fps issue. I am now getting a steady, consistant 144fps. In fact i ended up turning off dlss because i don't need it anymore.

It seems you're expressing surprise about something being added to your life. Could you clarify what you mean?
