Using a Roku TV Stick makes it easy for my parents to convert their TV into a smart TV, but since there’s no Ethernet port, it relies solely on wireless connections. Whenever they arrive from work and switch apps, my ping in Counter Strike Global Offensive jumps to around 150ms and then drops back to about 40 every few seconds, making movement on the map difficult. I’ve tried fixing this multiple times—an engineer checked the line and found no problems. While I can stream videos and streams on Twitch without buffering, lag appears when I try to search online, play games, or chat in Discord. I’ve experimented with a dedicated Gigabit Ethernet card for my PC, QoS settings on a third-party router, adjusting MAC addresses, limiting bandwidth to 5Mbps, and even changing the Roku’s bandwidth priority—but none of these resolved the issue. I currently live in an area offering FTTT and copper connections, which provide around 25 Mbps download and 6 Mbps upload speeds. This should be sufficient for streaming Netflix and playing games with acceptable latency. My main concern is finding a solution that works reliably.

It's widely understood now that the Roku makes quite a lot of calls, which can consume a significant amount of your internet bandwidth.

It seems streaming at 1080p with Netflix and gaming isn't providing enough downloads.

You're seeing Pi-Hole block all traffic, which could be due to configuration or network settings. Try adjusting the rules or checking for conflicts.

Netflix suggests a speed of 5mbps for Full HD playback. Most other platforms likely don’t require such high bandwidth.

You likely want to fully disable the feature. Check your documentation or support resources for step-by-step guidance on disabling it. No specific tutorial was provided, but general configuration methods apply.

Pihole functions by removing ads through domain blacklists. Just include the domains you want blocked, and they’ll also be restricted.

Thank you for your question. The Roku should still be able to stream as long as it's connected and functioning properly.

Absolutely, it won't be able to transmit information from your network to Roku.
