You haven’t changed the BIOS settings yet. Identifying your motherboard and processor can help. Are your screens linked to a dedicated graphics card or directly to the system board?

I haven’t changed my BIOS settings since setting this desktop two years ago. My recent poll and forum discussion suggested keeping things as they are unless there were significant issues. The motherboard is an AMD B450 Tomahawk Max, the GPU is a GTX 1660 Super, and both displays are linked to it. I noted the configuration details in my initial post.

It's wise to avoid changing your BIOS without proper guidance, but this problem clearly justifies updating it. Several BIOS versions for your motherboard have been released to improve PCIe support and System Boot functionality.

It was occurring with my most recent desktop installation too, which is why I wondered if it related to the HDMI splitter and whether it might be causing confusion for the GPU about the correct display.

It seems the issue isn't related to the splitter itself. A computer can start up without a connected monitor, and the splitter is likely set to detect just one input source. Would you like to test with a single monitor?

Previously, when I completely unplugged the splitter (making it seem like only a monitor is connected), the problem didn’t occur. However, I haven’t restarted it many times to be certain. My feeling is that the trouble started with the splitter itself. It seems it automatically switches to TV output by default, which triggers the blank screen problem. It shouldn’t happen when you return to the monitor, but it still does.

It seems you're questioning the need for a splitter, possibly due to multiple input signals. Your GTX 1660 likely has just one HDMI port, but adapters can convert between DVI to HDMI and DisplayPort to HDMI.

I believe you're heading in the correct direction. The splitter might have been meant for a home theater configuration rather than a multi-monitor PC arrangement.

It's frustrating though since it works well for displaying the desktop on the TV, which happens a lot. The GPU includes three full-size DisplayPorts (v1.4) plus one HDMI port (2.0b).

It would simply be a workaround and part of a test. Especially if the problem is a boot issue rather than a heat-related one. Nowadays, heat problems usually just slow things down rather than causing crashes, though they can lead to failures.
