Problem continues after restart.
I’ve noticed temperature problems even when readings aren’t obvious. The issue seems to be that temperature sensors only reflect their local area. It’s possible some GPU sections are overheating but lack probes. My approach is to supply significantly more cool air than required and observe any changes. Usually, I remove the side panel and direct a strong fan onto it. The unit I received is designed for drying rugs—around 4500cfm. A box fan could work too. They’re also large. If this resolves the matter, it points to a heat problem. If not, it’s likely another issue. Another aspect to check is whether your system is CPU-limited or GPU-limited, and adjust accordingly. Consider if under load one component hits 100% usage. If neither reaches that level, verify your Zen2 CPU and its MHz reading during stress. Edited October 15, 2022 by Bombastinator
The CPU runs an R5 2600x, and the GPU is a 1660ti, so there shouldn’t be any major bottlenecks. For the CPU, it reaches speeds around 3.975 to 4.0 MHz. There’s also some stuttering even in menus where the system isn’t under heavy load. I’ll follow up on the fan suggestion once I find one at home.
I tried the fan trick, but it didn’t work at all. It looks like the GPU isn’t throttling. The performance drops happen even when I limit the frames, and they get worse if I leave them unlimited.
Everything slows down constantly. The main concern is the extent. I have a fairly even setup for Fallout 4—4770k with garbage mode and a 580. My performance hits 80% on CPU and 100% on GPU. My GPU is limited here, but not severely. The idea of a bottleneck is overrated and likely leads to failure. You’ll always reach full CPU or full GPU capacity. The real issue is what happens beyond that point. If you’re not hitting either, it’s a red flag. The machine should be balanced, but something must be wrong somewhere. I’m just trying to pinpoint the problem. Edited October 16, 2022 by Bombastinator
In FF14 it often hits 99% GPU usage with just 40% CPU load, which seems odd since the problem appeared only after a system reset.
I’d consider the RAM problem and verify if it operates in dual mode. As it is now, using two 64-bit CPUs, I’d check CPU-Z for that. Are XMP/DOCP features turned on or off? Also, inspect your hard drive status—have you noticed any stuttering during games? Do you have F4, BF1, or BF5 installed?
Sorry, I don’t have those titles and it’s late here. I’ll respond tomorrow after reviewing the details.
