Hi everyone,
I’m facing a bothersome problem with my system and would like some guidance. Here are the details of my configuration:
• Processor: Intel i7-12700
• Motherboard: Gigabyte B660M AC Gaming
• RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) at 3600 MHz (recently upgraded from 2x8GB)
• Storage: M.2 SSD connected to the M.2_2 slot
• Operating System: Windows with all updates applied
• Cooling: Sufficient cooling with no obvious overheating

Issue:
After upgrading my RAM from 2x8GB to 2x16GB at 3600 MHz, I’ve begun experiencing system freezes during the Prime95 Large FFT test. The system functions normally for general tasks and other stress tests but consistently freezes during this specific benchmark. This problem didn’t occur with my previous 16GB RAM setup, and it also appears when downloading large files via Epic Games or Steam (though that might not be directly related).

Steps I’ve Taken:
1. Verified RAM Settings – confirmed correct speed and timings in BIOS.
2. Reconnected Components – RAM and other parts were reinserted to check for loose connections.
3. Swapped SSD Slot – tried using a different M.2 slot, but the issue remains.
4. Updated BIOS – applied the latest version for my motherboard.
5. Inspected Cooling – temperatures stayed within safe ranges during stress tests.

Additional Notes:
• The problem seems to have started after the RAM upgrade.
• System operates well in everyday use and other benchmarks, but Prime95’s Large FFT test consistently causes freezes.
• I’m wondering if the RAM speed or compatibility could be the root cause, or if there’s another factor I haven’t considered.

Request for Help:
I hope someone has faced a similar situation or has insights into what might be behind these freezes. Could this relate to RAM speed, voltage, or motherboard compatibility? Any suggestions or troubleshooting advice would be invaluable!

Thank you in advance!

What RAM model are you using—including manufacturer, type, and speed details? Are XMP settings activated?

i modify the setup to use a t-force 2x8gb 3200 motherboard and lower the cpu voltage. the system maintains full disk usage, but the pc freezes temporarily before restarting again.

just to clarify, the issue seems to be related to m.2, RAM, CPU, or the motherboard in my area. no one here knows how to fix it, and after changing many parts it keeps happening again.

It might be that the Gigabyte B660M AC Gaming has insufficient VRM power for the i7-12700 with a 180W turbo.

Could you confirm if the issue seems to be with a weak VRM?

I would say yes, read this link
https://www.techspot.com/review/2426-int...herboards/
Set the power limit in your BIOS to 125W, open the case for improved airflow, and begin your test...
