Prime95 achieves 100 degrees Celsius immediately
I have a Z97 MSI board equipped with an i7 4770K processor cooled by an H80i V2. During a stress test in Prime95, my CPU temperature briefly reached 100°C, though the coolant water stayed at a steady 37°C once the test ended. The drop in temperature was gradual—first 80°C, then 50°C, followed by 40°C. I suspect there might be an issue beyond just cooling performance.
This could indicate a heat transfer problem. It might be due to an improperly installed TIM on the core die, insufficient thermal paste in the IHS, or a failing pump operating at very low speeds.
Consider alternative load options such as gaming, CPU-Z stress, and Cinebench to observe any changes in water temperature. Verify with HWinfo64 that your CPU is throttling properly. Edited November 9, 2023 by leclod
