I’m planning to buy all my initial PC components before Thanksgiving and want to understand the expected cost. On Amazon, the Ryzen 7 2700x was originally $200 but has now increased by $50. I’m curious whether it will rise further or drop back down to $200 or higher. If a new chip comes out around that time, could its price fall significantly? I’m hoping so because I almost reached my budget when it was listed at $200. In short, prices for Ryzen processors seem to be changing a lot right now. If a new model launches near Thanksgiving, how will it affect the prices of previous models like the 2700x?
2700 is an older chipset. This means costs will shift frequently. It’s likely to be cheapest during holiday periods so they can remove old stock. Also, try pcpartpicker to automatically locate the best price for components. You might even find a used 2700x—used CPUs aren’t a big deal with AMD.
Everything should feel more relaxed around Thanksgiving, but aim for Black Friday and Cyber Monday—they’ll be even better deals.
The information suggests the 2700 price may drop, which could imply the 2700x follows.
I'm really hoping that works out. Just managed to get my parents to buy all the PC components I need for my fifteenth birthday. Knowing the chip costs are dropping eases a bit of my worry, thanks. Also, do you think GPU prices might shift at the same time?
Thanks for the introduction! I'm currently evaluating a full setup and weighing two options. I'm trying to figure out which case fits my needs best and determining the appropriate power supply size. Still figuring out the exact requirements. - Ryzen 7 2700x $235.90
- Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz $99.99
- MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 Ti $301.26
- ASUS Prime X470-Pro $142.99
- Thermaltake Smart 500W 80+ $44.99
- 250GB SSD $48.94
- Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-OMEGA $168.99 OR H510 Elite $169.99
Estimated total comes to about $1,043 before taxes. I'm hoping prices drop around Black Friday/Cyber Monday to around $900, though parts might shift.
Start parts on PCPartPicker to get the best deal. Skip the 2700x model; opt for the standard 2700 instead. That option is too expensive and won’t help. If your GPU is an 1660 Ti, you don’t need the 2700 either—you’ll face serious performance limits and lose money. Check the list, pick wisely.
I understand your point, and I'm sure you're not confused. The Ryzen 5 3600 with the 1660Ti should perform similarly or even better. Thanks for tweaking the setup to be more efficient and affordable! Regarding the case, it seems the main drawback is its cost, aside from that. All the other components look great, so I really appreciate you putting together this list!
