The VPN won’t fix the core issue of opening ports to the Internet correctly—it might even complicate things further. I chose to leave PIA behind since it only permits one port, which is rarely practical for most situations. Games tend to select multiple ports, often requiring different ones.

I reside in St. Louis and based on the VPN used, switching to a Chicago server may reduce latency between 10-50 milliseconds.

Avoid setting up a DMZ on your home network. Use another router on the same network if possible; if that resolves the issue, your current router might be faulty. If the problem persists with another router, it could indicate an issue with your local ISP or a higher-level blockage.
