I have two mobile workstations equipped with Quadro FX 1500M video cards and Sigmatel audio. They only function properly on Vista, so I had to proceed despite my reservations. A few months ago, I installed a genuine copy of Vista Home Premium and the product keys through the phone activation service. One device is operating smoothly, while the other requires frequent reinstallation and re-activation every 30 days. The latter is now connected to the internet, which suggests it might be communicating with Microsoft servers. I suspect the product key is invalid and believe the activation server is no longer responding. Could I configure a firewall rule to prevent this issue?

It seems redirecting anything from microsoft.com to 127.0.0.1 is a solid beginning.
