I recently purchased a Steam link, but the sound quality is poor. The bass disappears completely. I suspect the issue lies in how the audio format changes—often switching to 16-bit at 48kHz. Even when I adjust it before connecting, it reverts back. My default playback settings don’t seem to fix this. Can I set a fixed sample rate on a playback device in Windows 10?

I don’t have a Steam link, but in the advanced settings for Audi playback devices you can uncheck “allow applications to take control of this device...”. That seems like a feature. A 16-bit 48kHz works well because it covers all frequencies from 0 to 24kHz (human hearing), which should include bass notes. I favor 24-bit @ 48kHz as it provides 144dB more range than 16-bit 96dB, though you probably won’t notice the difference.
