You're considering a motherboard with or without a flash button. If you connect a keyboard or leave the BIOS prompt blank, clicking the flash button by accident could trigger unexpected behavior, potentially causing system instability or data loss. It's safer to ensure the BIOS is properly configured before testing such features.

Ensure the system shuts down using a USB stick in the BIOS update port. It’s unclear why you wouldn’t prefer this for safety, especially if issues arise later.

It depends on the device. A USB flash drive with a BIOS update won’t work unless the OS is properly installed. You can still connect a keyboard or mouse, but pressing buttons won’t trigger any changes because the system isn’t responding to the update.

Most of the time you can simply treat it like a regular USB port. I purchased a board with BIOS flashback since the new B550 boards didn’t initially support my Ryzen 5000 chip, so I had to update the firmware before using it. It performed perfectly and gives me peace of mind.
