As expected, the title indicates... I’m preparing to move my work setup from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8.1. I’ve backed up all my files, data, and Steam folder onto a separate drive, with the operating system on an SSD. Any advice on steps before, during, or after the upgrade would be greatly appreciated. I need everything running smoothly for my work tomorrow morning! Thanks!

I went ahead with the upgrade smoothly, no backups needed and everything functioned perfectly.

Create backups of the files you wish to retain and disconnect all drives except the one you plan to install the operating system on, ensuring Windows doesn't accidentally move files elsewhere.

I received a gift card for my birthday and thought it was finally time to improve. I've heard Windows 8 is much more optimized and works well with two screens. I'm also looking forward to the update that will restore the start menu! The old desktop interface was frustrating, which kept me from upgrading for a long time. Great tip!
