I understand if this was addressed before; I didn't manage to find a fix on my end. Here are the details of what I have:

- Hardware specs before proceeding: HP Elitedesk 800 g1, SFF, Core i5 4570, 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, EVGA 750W 80+ Gold PSU, 2TB SATA HDD with 250GB SSD, BIOS version L01 v02.71, dated 05/09/2017.
- Case replaced earlier.
- New RAM installed: 4 x 4GB DDR3 1600MHz, but only half used for another project.
- After upgrade, encountered a black screen that persisted.
- CPU cooler activated "Hyper Drive" and I shut it down to prevent damage.
- Tried CMOS reset via button on the motherboard and removing the battery.
- Tested all four RAM slots with both 4GB and 16GB sticks; slots function correctly.
- Still experiencing boot issues even with a single 16GB stick connected.

I'm aware this machine is capable of supporting up to 32GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, but I don't have confirmation on the channel configuration (single, dual, or quad). Please let me know if you need further clarification!

Your findings suggest Q87 Express might cap at 8 GB/slot, with some dual‑slot models reaching up to 16 GB. I’m not entirely sure, but it looks like the latest BIOS info might reflect this. Are you certain about that?

Yes, this was one of the final actions I took. Even though I'm not 100% sure if it's the latest update.
