Power Supply Issue?
Power Supply Issue?
Hey everyone, I need some assistance with a new PC build that I plan to install in my car.
Details
CPU: Intel Core I5 11400
RAM: ASROCK H570M-ITX/AC
Storage: SAMSUNG 980pro SSD 2TB
PSU: M2-ATX (https://www.mini-box.com/M2-ATX-160w-Int...wer-Supply)
Case: Blackbox Mobile Mini ITX Enclosure (https://www.mini-box.com/CarPC-enclosure)
The problem I’m facing is that the computer keeps getting stuck in an endless boot cycle. Once it passes the AsRock boot screen, it powers off and attempts to restart.
My troubleshooting suggested the PSU might be the issue, so I contacted the manufacturer and followed their guidance; ultimately, I returned the unit for a warranty replacement. When I sent it back, it arrived and was installed, but the same issue persisted.
Interestingly, if I disconnect the M2-ATX PSU and connect my spare desktop’s ATX PSU instead, everything functions perfectly.
With the M2-ATX, I can boot into BIOS without problems, CPU temperatures are normal, and networking works fine in both Windows 10 and Windows 11. I’ve tried disabling services to check for software faults and even ran Pop! OS (Linux), but neither resolved the problem.
I’m really puzzled because it only boots into BIOS/Safemode consistently when powered by my spare PC’s PSU. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
It’s probable to exceed specifications at some stage. You’re already utilizing nearly the full capacity of its +12V power source (its outdated design limits availability to under 100W). I really question whether this PSU can handle any contemporary devices, not just without a GPU.

Nothing directly applicable to that enclosure would be outside my understanding, as I lack access to it and only see its own product listings as compatible. It seems you might have been better served by choosing the smallest ITX case suited for an SFX or Pico PSU.
In reality, it could simply mean you were too ambitious with your car PC requirements. The 35W T 11th-gen CPUs would have been a more suitable option for a vehicle build.
The firm provided a prebuilt using a 10th gen i5, and pcpartpicker indicated they would be nearly identical in power consumption. That was the reasoning behind it. I’m not very attached to the case, so I’ll search for an alternative power supply. Thanks for the feedback.
