I have an i7-10700 processor on an MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus board. I accessed Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and saw the power limit throttling indicator toggle between on and off. It initially allows, then disables again. I attempted to tweak the boost short power maximum and boost power maximum, along with stress tests, but nothing changed. Performance remains stable, yet I’m concerned about long-term reliability. I reset all Intel settings to defaults and am reaching out for advice. I’ve attached images showing the toggle states and during a stress test. Please let me know if you need further details. I’ve also tried enabling unlimited boost and reducing TDP to base, but results were the same.
10700 has a standard TDP of "65w" meaning it usually runs at the rated level. However, you might go beyond that depending on your tasks. Use caution when adjusting tools and sliders if you're unsure about the settings.
Are you running any MSI applications on your machine? There might be a faulty program, such as Dragon Center, which is misconfiguring the CPU turbo settings. This can lead to power throttling issues. It functioned correctly after removing Dragon Center. I also adjusted the BIOS settings, modifying both the turbo limits to 200W each and raising them to 4000W. Everything works now. I’m confident even at 1000W it would have been fine. Thanks for your assistance!
