A few months ago my computer stopped working while playing a game. When I tried to turn it back on, it would light up, all the fans were running, but the PC parts would illuminate yet there was no display. Initially, I changed the monitor and HDMI cable, but that didn’t fix it. I realized it might be because I had been overclocking my CPU to run higher FPS, as my CPU was getting older and slower. Since my PC needed an upgrade, I replaced the CPU and the issue persisted. Then I thought about the motherboard, remembering it can be damaged by overclocking. Installing a new one resolved the problem.

Later, while working, I encountered a freeze when typing in my password—five minutes later it froze again. I turned it off and tried again, but the display remained blank. At that stage, I considered the graphics card might be faulty because it’s connected via HDMI. I replaced it and still faced the same issue.

I visited a nearby shop, but they don’t offer repairs, and driving an hour away isn’t practical. The only option was to perform a factory reset, though I hesitated because my internet would be slow and I’d have to re-download games.

Additional notes: the GPU fans and water cooler fans also spin, and the PSU emitted a loud high-pitched noise, making me worry about overheating during overclocking.

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

A few months ago my computer stopped working while playing a game. When I tried to turn it back on, it would light up, all the fans were running, but the display wouldn’t show anything. Initially, I replaced the monitor and HDMI cable, but that didn’t fix the issue. I realized it might be due to overclocking my CPU, which was getting slower because it was a few years old. Since my PC needed an upgrade, I bought a new CPU. After installing it, the same problem occurred. I then considered the motherboard, thinking it could have been damaged from overclocking. Installing a new one resolved the issue. Later, while working at the office, I encountered a freeze when typing my password, so I turned it off and tried again. The display remained blank. At this stage, I suspected the graphics card might be faulty since that’s where the HDMI connection is located. I replaced it and faced the same problem. The nearest shop doesn’t offer repairs, and I don’t have a car for an hour-long trip. I thought about performing a factory reset, but I’d need to download all my games again due to slow internet.

I also noticed the GPU and water cooler fans spin too, and the PSU emitted a loud high-pitched sound, making me worry about overheating during overclocking.

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

PC components:
CPU: AMD FX 8350
GPU: MSI RX570
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990x Gaming SLI
RAM: HyperX DDR3 8GB (2x4)
Power supply: Corsair HX750
Storage: 250GB SSD and 1TB hard drive
You might want to reset the CMOS to refresh BIOS settings.
