Power consumption of the processor
Power consumption of the processor
I own an AMD Ryzen 7 3800x 105 watt model with a TDP of 105 watts. I run modern warfare and iRacing on my machine, so I’m thinking about downsizing to a lower power version. What’s the ideal wattage range for stability? I’ve seen 65w and 95w models but want to avoid performance issues. My setup includes: CPU, Noctua NH-D15S cooler, 32GB RAM, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro storage, an 8GB 2060 graphics card, and a Corsair RX 6700 XT power supply. The case is Fractal Design Meshify with stock fans, but I plan to upgrade to quieter silent wings. Would reducing the power usage noticeably lower temperatures or bring benefits for my system? Thanks for your advice—I’m new to TDP concepts.
The Ryzen 7 3800X is offered in a single model, which means you're limited to its current configuration. Still, don't worry—your setup should perform adequately with what it provides. When discussing a processor's TDP, remember it mainly serves as a marketing figure and doesn't reflect the actual performance you'll experience daily.
Initially running modern warfare on this PC felt quite intense, similar to reaching 60 degrees Celsius within ten minutes after a match. I managed to control the frame rate by setting it to 30 FPS at 1080p, which seemed to keep the system stable—no more than 45 degrees Celsius after about twenty minutes. This made me consider hardware adjustments. Regarding the Bequiet case fans you mentioned, how do you feel about them? Are they superior, or should I stick with the current setup and just add one more fan like those in my current build?
