Hi everyone, I'm considering buying the Ryzen 5 3600x and Asus Strix B450-I Mini ITX for my upcoming LAN build. I'm wondering if this will be a hassle or straightforward. I know a BIOS update might be necessary so the motherboard can support the Zen2 chip properly. (See links to ASUS support pages.) Based on those resources, I think I'll need at least BIOS version 2301 installed. Now, A. What BIOS version should the board come with? Or does it change? B. Can I install a USB drive to apply the right BIOS on a new build, especially since I won't have access to the CPU or Windows? (This applies only if the BIOS is earlier than 2301.) If you have any advice or helpful videos, that would be really useful. I'm finding it a bit confusing because my previous setup was all plug-and-play for both CPU and motherboard. Thanks ahead! Jacob
To perform the upgrade you need a 1st or 2nd generation CPU. However, AMD offers a complimentary "boot kit" with a basic CPU that lets you update your BIOS. After installation, return it (shipping covered). You can access the boot kit using your serial number and part details once your new CPU arrives. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100
This was my subsequent choice... Even though £100 doesn’t appear insignificant, I realize everyone interprets things uniquely. Beyond simply using it as-is, is it truly worth £100 extra?
It's WiFi 6 with a solid VRM setup. It's a decent build, especially considering the US prices. The Strix design looks good, and you'll get similar performance at a lower cost. The X570 supports 16 cores easily. You might want to see if local shops have a bootkit to try out. You could pay a small fee to borrow one. Either board works well.
The phrase "80+ is not 'little more'" emphasizes a clear threshold, suggesting it's significantly higher than a modest amount.
It also includes Intel Wi-Fi and tends to be more affordable. The main consideration for the Strix board might be the additional fan header, while I’d prefer avoiding the tricky SATA configuration.
