Possible? Yes? No? Maybe?
Possible? Yes? No? Maybe?
Hey everyone, the current configuration uses a Ryzen 5 5500 with an ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 Mobo and a graphics card in the first slot. I've discovered a few affordable WD M.2 SSDs, but I already have one in my second M.2 slot. I recall seeing PCIE to M.2 adapters and thought about getting two, though after checking dual adaptors, I realized bifurcation might be necessary. I checked the manual, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm dealing with. Does my Mobo support this? I'm unsure about the exact technical requirements. Would using two single adaptors work? I looked at the link you shared: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-32Gbps-Ex...B09SL9F832 and the Mobo specs here: https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550 Phantom Gaming 4/index.asp#Specification
It functions as intended according to the Mobo's instructions (see reference). The mention of "x4" in the PCIE3 slot indicates compatibility with NVME boot disks and basic storage operations.
This slot offers remarkable flexibility, handling a wide range of tasks that older motherboards might struggle with. Capabilities include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB3 expansion, high-speed Gigabit Ethernet, sound cards, multiple GPUs, RGB lighting, and fan headers.
It functions properly. I had an older PC with an i7 3770k from Gigabyte UD3. It can serve as a boot drive too. However, I remember some problems setting it up before it appears as a drive. My suggestion is to opt for a data SSD instead. The extra PCIe lanes allow future upgrades such as a network card or video capture. From a daily usage perspective, you're not downloading or uploading large files regularly, so this is just my opinion.
