You have a laptop with a dual slot setup, 8 GB of 1600 MHz RAM, an i5 3320M processor, and you're currently using Windows 10 Pro. You play games like CS:GO and Fortnite and plan to switch to lower-end titles in the future. What upgrades would be most beneficial?

You might consider installing another RAM stick in the extra port behind the keyboard.

Observe those games to determine necessity; check RAM consumption. An SSD could also help with Windows performance even without one. You might maintain your current setup and upgrade later, or install it if space allows.

I chose to purchase an additional 2tb hdd for external storage and store games there. Then I considered upgrading the RAM or the CPU. I'm unsure which option to pick.

It's probable that upgrading the CPU won't be possible with that laptop. They're often permanently attached to the motherboard.

When considering lower-end laptops, upgrading the CPU might not be necessary. Just keep your money and invest in a different setup.

Thank you very much for the responses! I will likely hold onto my money, even though I expect I won't purchase a PC anytime soon :/
