Possible upgrade
Possible upgrade
I own two desktop PCs both with W-10, but I'm retired and mostly use them for little more than idle time. One qualifies for a W-11 upgrade. I'm curious about the changes I'd see and the learning challenges involved. Have anyone done this before? How did it go for you? Thanks, Arnie
For your second build that doesn’t meet W11 requirements, I recommend using any GNU/Linux distribution. This will ensure you have the latest operating system available.
Linux Mint closely resembles Windows but offers flexibility in choosing your preferred distro.
Here’s a guide on creating installation media and installing a GNU/Linux distribution:

For example:
One of my older relatives has a laptop running Windows 10, but it doesn’t qualify for Windows 11. Instead of discarding the functional device, I plan to install Linux Mint onto it eventually. After all, their main use is browsing the web, and the browser remains unchanged regardless of the OS.
Well, after WIn10 support stops, the OS remains functional. However, malware begins to infiltrate gradually because no new security patches are issued. This can eventually result in file damage or ransomware attacks. From a user interface perspective, it doesn't matter much—you can customize Win11 (or Win10) to look different from the standard version. For example, you might see a Win7 interface instead of the usual one. My version of Win10 displays a Win7 GUI because I prefer that appearance.
The main change will be placing the start button in the center of the taskbar, though this can be adjusted. Tabs in file explorer are still a good feature. Visually the difference might not be noticeable, likely just in the background but no significant problems with Windows 11. For the other PC, there used to be options for installing on older hardware, which I haven’t tried but have seen videos about.
