Hey everyone, I just got a new 5600X last week and started up using the built-in cooler instead of my aftermarket one to check compatibility. The issue is that the thermal paste on the stock cooler feels like it's stuck together. I almost panicked when I couldn't take it out to swap it with another cooler. I had to pull it out by force, which didn’t work, so I twisted it until it loosened (the CPU stayed in place, thankfully). After cleaning the chip and installing the main cooler, I went about my day. Looking back, I wonder if I might have bent or damaged some pins during the process. I didn’t inspect the CPU after removing the Wraith Stealth, just assumed things were fine. This has been frustrating, so I ran several stress tests—OCCT, Prime95, AIDA64, Memtest64, etc.—all passed without issues. No crashes in Windows either. I’m pretty sure I didn’t harm the CPU or the socket beyond what’s obvious, like blue screens or freezes. What signs would really tell me if something was wrong? Thanks for any advice!

You can't harm the CPU by just looking at it. You must remove it completely and then place it down to cause damage. Unless the CPU is permanently attached to the cooler and you apply immense force, it won't be affected.

Remove the CPU carefully, make sure it's secure. I've never seen anyone pull the CPU out completely and leave the pins behind—usually it's the CPU that drops from the connector and breaks when it falls. The issue is likely the socket; it only holds the pins loosely, while a metal piece covers the CPU on an Intel LGA socket.
I removed my old Intel Pentium 4 CPUs from the socket more than twice due to dried thermal paste on the cooler base. Each time I took the CPU out, checked that no pins were harmed, and reinserted it. It functioned perfectly for years afterward. The process wasn’t ideal, but it wasn’t a major concern. The biggest risk is losing the CPU if it falls off the cooler, just like any other situation. If your system runs smoothly after testing it repeatedly, there’s no reason to worry about damage. Unless you accidentally twisted the CPU into the socket while adjusting the cooler—which is unlikely—you should be safe.
I’d try the software test first since the new thermal paste is still fresh. I wish I had verified before installing the aftermarket cooler. You avoid damaging the CPU pins because they’re secured by tabs on the socket, and since the CPU is usually more valuable, it’s safer to protect it than the board. Even if the CPU works fine later, I want to confirm everything functions properly. In short: AMD needs better thermal paste and should adopt Intel’s socket design like LGA 1200.
