It doesn’t bother me. I avoid playing games with top-level anti-cheat systems because I’m too cautious about them.

I don’t miss any games that use it much since I switched, and I’ve mostly played single-player titles over the past year, which usually work fine. I think many kernel-level applications pose serious security risks. Just one breach of a major system could lead to major issues. Anything could happen.

I moved to mainlining Linux in July 2024 and learned to stop playing games with incompatible anti-cheat. Now I’m more shocked when something fails. At the start of the year, I bought the Crysis trilogy and thought about compatibility, but it worked fine—now Proton feels amazing.

Improvement options are limited for single-player title compatibility. Support enhancements might help with certain games, especially the persona series, which I personally enjoy, though Linux modding can still be challenging. Community efforts will gradually improve less popular content over time.

I've noticed this often too. I especially enjoy Heroic Launcher since it allows you to execute an .exe file within an existing proton container, simplifying the process of running certain mod tools, even though I understand modding isn't flawless yet.
