Hey, following up on my previous discussion about purchasing a new PC. It came with an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max. The system runs perfectly, launches almost immediately because of the M.2 SSD, but the M.2 SSD causes issues. From what I found online, the B450 Tomahawk Max turns off two of the 6Gb/s SATA ports out of the four available. Honestly, I don’t mind the M.2 speed much. Is there a way to buffer the M.2 data so I can access all four ports? "Why do you need four SATA ports?" Because I have a lot of data that needs constant storage and retrieval. As mentioned before, I have a 1TB SSD and a 4TB HDD, both full of information. The new PC also came with an extra 1TB drive for me to fill up until I get my next 4TB drive. If anyone knows how to make the M.2 work with more ports, that would be great. I’m okay with slower speeds and shorter boot times, but I really need extra capacity.
The CPU supports 20 PCIe connections: 16 for the GPU and 4 for either NVMe or two SATA devices. When using an NVMe M.2 through the CPU, those two SATA ports are occupied. If you opt for a SATA M.2, one of the CPU’s SATA ports remains available. You retain all four SATA ports from the chipset.
The Mobo features just one M.2 port. The attachment you mentioned is the actual M.2 card, which includes a single M.2 slot and four stat slots positioned behind two PCIe 1x slots. I believe I’ll opt for the budget adapter if there are no better alternatives.
You can find out by looking at the sticker on the back of your device. It usually lists the interface type, like NVMe or SATA M.2.
