Hello everyone,
After more than ten years of console gaming, I chose to assemble my own PC. I purchased and put it together in mid-July, but have repeatedly felt disappointed with its speed.
Here are my components:
- Intel i5-12600KF (unoptimized)
- G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 RAM
- MSI PRO B760-P WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 motherboard
- Kingston NV2 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVMe SSD
- Gigabyte GAMING OC V2 GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB graphics card
- Corsair RM750e (2023) 750 W, 80+ Gold certified, fully modular ATX power supply
- Operating system: Windows 11

I’ve consistently experienced poor performance across most games. I’m playing at 1080p and have opted not to upgrade to a 1440p 120Hz monitor until I identify the issue.
Retail WoW: with ray tracing disabled, SSAO and other settings at ‘Fair’, I’m achieving 45–50 fps in many areas, though drops are noticeable in larger cities.
Cyberpunk: Ray tracing off, high settings active with some features turned off, around 50fps.
Black Myth Wukong – Ray tracing off, high settings, 30–35 fps with occasional stuttering.

I recognize my build is mid-range, yet the results feel disappointingly weak. I work for about nine hours each day and will review suggestions and advice here once I have the chance.
Appreciate any assistance you can offer.

you might receive a b760 because it represents a business-grade processor with high performance, suitable for demanding tasks like gaming.

Didn’t realize this. Just checked the reviews on PCpartpicker and thought it was a solid price and fits well with my setup. Could it really be the motherboard limiting me? I’ll share the exact figures tonight after work, but they’ve never been that high before.

No, it's not that. Motherboards actually have minimal impact on FPS. I have a system similar to yours (12400F, 32 GB, 6700XT 12 GB, 1080p) but haven't played those games, so I can't confirm if the performance is bad. If you suspect slow speeds, try installing and running GPU-Z to verify the card's PCIe speed (Bus Interface). Often, clicking the ? button helps simulate a load for accurate results. I'm confident your card should be showing 4.0 x16.

I'll handle this right away once I'm back. If it isn't, could a BIOS flash resolve the problem?

New drivers released today worked well for my 4070, and I updated my BIOS. One of them helped, and performance is now excellent. Thanks to everyone who assisted.
