You're experiencing lower-than-expected performance in Flight Simulator 2020 despite having a solid setup. Your hardware includes an AMD FX 8350 and GTX 1080, with 20GB RAM and a large SSD. The issue might stem from driver conflicts, outdated software, or background processes. Even after updating drivers and upgrading your GPU, performance can dip due to resource contention or outdated settings. Consider checking for driver updates, closing unnecessary programs, and ensuring your game is running in the latest version. If problems persist, a system restart or contacting Microsoft support could help.

Your FX 8350 is clearly the main constraint in this situation. MSFS demands a lot of CPU power, and this processor isn’t up to the task. I’ve watched some YouTube videos showing similar setups, which typically run between 17 to 28 frames per second.

It really hinges on what you think is unacceptable. Are we considering a 50 dollar or a 200 dollar budget?

It makes sense to upgrade the motherboard since most modern CPUs don’t use AM3 chipsets anymore—maybe around 200. I’m open to switching to Intel if it’s more affordable or offers better performance.

Looking for something near 200 USD should be achievable. CPU, RAM and motherboard are the key parts. The used market can be a great spot if you know what to seek. I’ll check what I can assist with tomorrow—4AM here, need some rest.

Sure, I'll check it out tomorrow. You might also want to create a new thread in New Builds and Planning asking for suggested CPU, RAM, and motherboard upgrades within a $200 budget. Others would be happy to assist you.
