Plex Transcoder experiencing delays when streaming in 4K resolution.
Hello, I'm using Plex on my PC (i7-9700K, 5.1GHz) with no GPU and a wired connection to my modem. I have around 1200/400 Mbps ISP speed at home, and a 5TB HDD Seagate connected to my ASUS Z390i motherboard via a 10Gb USB port. I'm wondering if using an NVMe SSD would be better than the one I currently have, or if it makes a difference. I also have remuxed 4K content and am using the Transcoder with 300 buffer, slowest background transcoding. I know this shouldn't matter much, but my friend with 1Gb internet (12900k-3080) says streaming 4K is problematic—his buffer loads badly, his CPU hits 100% during transcoding, and he sees hiccups even at full speed. Meanwhile, watching 1080p with higher bitrate works perfectly. Any suggestions to improve this? Thanks.
Activate hardware transcoding using the i7's integrated GPU when your system supports it. Make sure you have Plex Pass enabled for this feature.
I don't have that choice, I'll be chasing it and retesting it. Thanks!
