Hello, I'm working on an iPhone 8 with a broken home button and a torn ribbon cable, so I'm replacing it with a mechanical version. It still doesn't recognize Touch ID, but it should be able to set up when you press the home button during installation. The phone runs iOS 16, and since it's linked to my iCloud account, I shouldn't lose access. After resetting with iTunes, it should work fine.

From what I understand, you can't modify the button by yourself unless the device ID is updated, which would render the device unusable. It's possible Apple has adjusted their system, making this problem different before.

Users can now swap the home button using Bluetooth controls, similar to what’s visible in this example; however, I’m choosing a model without Bluetooth support. Of course, touch ID isn’t available.
