I'm not seeking parental control since I already possess the access password.
In reality, I struggle with certain websites that consume a lot of my time and energy, but they are hard to manage.
Would it be possible to find software or extensions that can prevent me from visiting specific sites for a defined period? Probably not, as only after the time expires will it take effect.
Or should I rely on someone else to maintain the password for me?
My main concern is whether it works across different browsers—would it function in one while failing in another? That would be very helpful.
I've heard about parental control for years but never used it before.
Does it actually block access to certain websites?
Although I'm not a parent, I want to resist myself from visiting sites I find addictive. Someone else could set the passwords for me. Is Parental control suitable for my needs?
Which software do you suggest?
If you remember the password and understand how you configured it, you can reverse the changes...
Another person must handle everything because you don’t feel confident in yourself!
If it isn’t someone else... there’s no way out for you...
A better option would be to adjust your habits or simply let things unfold and see if you grow tired of it eventually.
Generate a fake hosts file with your website entries and have the Windows Task Scheduler replace it after a certain period.
Vyrvelata is correct. Everything you configure can be reversed.
I only have an idea to create a python script that reads packets from wireshark. If the destination IP matches the website you don’t want to visit, you can press alt+f4 or ctrl+w. Although I haven’t used a library for reading wireshark packets, it’s likely there’s a way to get the destination IP. You could also turn it into a file that starts automatically and use pyinstaller to make an executable, so it runs in the background without showing the command line or tray. You can still close the app if you prefer.
And whoever installs the lock has the power to reverse it, bringing you back to the starting point.
It varies depending on the device you're using. Usually, when I hear PC, I imagine my TV. You should be able to adjust the TV's PC settings for time of day, and/or follow the flags at the start of most programs. If you set it for TV-13, you won't be able to watch shows with a TV-13 or TV-MA rating. Not all shows include these flags, but this should clarify things.
