She mentioned to me about joining this forum after hearing an unusual suggestion. I wondered what it would feel like to run Steam on a 56k modem. It would be tough, but picture a contemporary gaming setup with that kind of connection... XD Pretty cool. William Meidling

You have the option to artificially restrict your network speed, but doing so can be frustrating.

I understand it wouldn't be practical. That's what made me think. I was thinking about how long it would take to download Doom (2016), Assassin's Creed III, or even Garry's Mod. Thanks for the clarification, Mr Unicorn.

I own a 56k modem, which means I could possibly discover something, but it’s not the kind of experience I’d like to relive. With updates over 100 MB and a Steam client that’s become quite heavy, launching takes more than an hour. I’m tired of the bloat and the hassle.

No? 56 kbps equals roughly 7 KB per second. Dividing 60,000,000 by 7 gives about 8.57 million seconds—around 2381 hours, which is approximately 99 days, 4 hours, 57 minutes, and 8 seconds at that rate.
