Hello, I just overclocked my AMD A8-6600K APU to 4.2Ghz for the first time. A friend suggested using Crossfire after installing an R9 380 GPU. I'm curious about how Crossfire would interact with these parts and whether it would perform better than running games directly on the GPU. Thanks for reading!

I understand your point, it seems your friend is referring to Dual Graphics, which works only with certain older cards and APUs. For the newer models, it would require a different R9 380, and I wouldn't invest in that processor since it wouldn't match the power of the GPUs you have.

For crossfire you would require two R9 380s. I believe there might be a mistake there.

It refers to dual graphics options previously known as 'Hybrid Crossfire' or 'Hybrid CrossfireX'. According to current knowledge, dual graphics can only be activated with a Radeon HD 6570 or HD 6670 integrated into the APU.

Yes. You can only use dual GPU when your discrete graphics match exactly with your onboard graphics.

Thank you all for your assistance! I was mainly looking at the concept as a substitute for upgrading my CPU to a newer 6-core model, which would need a different motherboard.
