I was searching for top-tier titles on my Steam Deck and noticed various options like the Heroic Launcher and direct downloads from Epic. I’m unsure which method is most reliable, so I’m focusing on the safest and most effective approach to get Epic Games content on my device.

You could install a complete Windows version and use it normally. I don’t have a Steam Deck, so that wouldn’t work for me.

The heroic launcher comes ready to use right away, though I haven't really liked it. You can also opt to install an epic games launcher via Lutris, letting it handle the setup for you—it functions similarly to Windows but with poor performance.

Remember to choose an epic approach—especially if you're going all out. It's free software with no hidden spyware, and it performs just as well as the official version.

On a deaktop it still works, though not very smoothly. Some options are hard to use, and most others aren’t worth trying. GOG is the only one that actually functions. The rest are mostly just useless junk. I’d rather play GOG than any other version. If GOG had Steam’s selection, I’d definitely choose it over Steam itself.

YouTube hosts numerous tutorials for setting up Heroic Launcher. Determining the safest or best option depends on personal preference, though its functionality is reliable for games that perform well in Proton. Managing login details and keeping software updated can be more complex than with native Steam titles, but it’s beneficial if you own a large collection of free Epic games.

With the Linux OS on your Steam Deck, you can explore available Linux solutions for accessing the Epic Games Store. The top three options are: launching EGS through Lutris Install, using Lutris to run Epic Games Store, and employing Heroic Games Launcher. Follow the usual steps on Windows but through these alternative tools. Install Heroic Games Launcher, sign in with your EGS account, and start playing. My experience shows these methods work well—though some games may behave differently depending on the platform. I recommend Heroic Games Launcher for a smoother experience, as it’s more user-friendly and receives regular updates. It’s also a common way to play EGS, making it easy to find guides and support. This approach is generally more convenient than installing EGS via Lutris, and it continues to improve over time.
