Play VLC Stream via SMB file locally without an internet connection.
Hi... I'm still getting the hang of networking. So far I've managed to get a third-party router and stream videos from my PC to my phone using VLC. Yesterday we lost internet, and I tried watching content on my phone but VLC won't open the SMB folder—just keeps loading. Now it works once the connection is back. It's fine with FTP too, but VLC seems to have issues when offline. I need a way to fix this or understand why it behaves this way. I prefer VLC because it automatically adds subtitles for me, and I'm curious if there are other players besides MX that could help. Any suggestions would be great!
You’d like to access content not saved locally while the internet was unavailable. Normally, VLC checks the internet first; if it fails, it times out. Previously, you could configure VLC to prioritize local sources. However, your current setup may be outdated, and details could have changed.
SMB can be tricky, but using the IP address instead of the PC name helps prevent unusual problems.
