Hey everyone, recently assembled a new PC a few weeks ago and have started observing some frame drops in games. For instance, Outriders normally runs at 144 FPS but falls to around 136 or 137 every few seconds, while Horizon Zero Dawn drops from 120 FPS to about 117. I understand this might be a first-world issue, but it’s quite bothersome. I’ve checked Windows 11, GPU drivers, chipset drivers, BIOS, and everything else that comes to mind. My PC specs are solid: 7800X3D Asus ROG Strix 4090, Asus ROG X670E-Wifi with 16GB RAM, GSKill DDR5 Trident Z5 Neo. The GPU draws only around 200W, which I thought might help, but it seems to be the case anyway. I’m wondering if there’s a specific setting I can enable or disable to fix this. Thanks ahead! Also, sometimes after a few restarts or game sessions, the frame rate improves—maybe that’s worth trying. I’d prefer the system to run smoothly without these interruptions.

initially this seems typical... frame rates don't stay fixed instantly, most titles adjust based on what’s being shown and what’s running. the real trick is usually straightforward. for instance, if you often drop to 117, set a stable frame rate like 100 or another number. that way your system can render consistently in that game. similar methods exist such as fast sync or gsync, though they’re more complex but feasible. additionally, some might argue your PC should have more power, but each game has settings that can strain any machine easily. the fix is usually to reduce settings until you reach a smooth experience. also, Windows 11 introduces memory management concerns—consider installing ISLC if unsure about compatibility. note that default settings often work fine. possible causes include memory leaks, driver problems, or extra apps. for clarity, check your startup screen and refer to the link provided. short version: it’s likely a configuration issue rather than hardware limits.

These ultra options are usually meant only to hurt performance. They add almost no visual improvement while using an unbelievable power for things like excessive rendering (instead of simply playing at 1440p and then scaling back for a cleaner look), overly detailed levels even when objects are distant, extremely long-range shadow calculations that make the difference disappear at such distances, and excessive tiling that provides nothing useful. Just reduce the settings slightly.

You need to understand both situations are normal. Look for a fix by adjusting settings, using lower resolutions, locking frame rates your PC supports, or upgrading to a better monitor like a GSYNC model. There are many possible solutions you can try.

Hey everyone. Appreciate the replies and sorry for the slow reply. I've reviewed the messages, but I'm setting up my new monitor this evening, so I'll test it out in the coming days. I'm hoping the problem will resolve itself, though maybe I should adjust my expectations a bit. Thanks again, and I'll provide more updates soon.

I appreciate your response once more. I have connected my new monitor and checked to see if the problem has improved. At first, I was worried about performance issues since MSI Afterburner indicated my GPU wasn’t under heavy load. The stuttering still occurs occasionally, but it’s a bit less obvious now with the new display. I also addressed some concerns: I selected Windows 11 because I planned to switch soon after Windows 10 reached its end-of-life, and I haven’t found many sources claiming Windows 11 is noticeably slower than Windows 10. I reduced my graphics settings from ultra, yet the stutter remains. From Task Manager, I’ve removed startup applications to keep the system light. Thank you for your feedback—I’m hoping this will resolve on its own or fade with a future update.
