Do you truly believe Bethesda resolved their issues? In reality, they only addressed a handful of problems in the standard game and expansions, which is why unofficial updates remain among the most popular mods for Skyrim. Nexus mods is reliable and performs better (in my opinion) than Steam Workshop.

I recall the issues from Witcher 2, especially in the Roches path during chapter 2. It really frustrated me at the time. Now I’ve started again, and fortunately I haven’t hit any major game-breaking bugs in Fallout—just a few bothersome ones. I still love Fallout. The TES games don’t interest me much, so I haven’t noticed many significant problems. Even though I play these games, I find it hilarious how Bethesda manages so many bugs.

I tested the boundaries, which I think partly stemmed from my own actions. The actions I took were decisions the developers might have questioned—what if the player performed this? And they prepared accordingly. I entered one of the safehouses, made sure the entrance was secure (practiced this in games with hidden threats like Resident Evil 4). I spent about half an hour exploring, double-checking everything to hit the 100% completion target. When I returned, I found the door empty. There was no switch to trigger it from within. The vault was designed without an interior opening; only the exterior button could close it. I tried pressing it, then rushed inside expecting a mechanism to unlock. My curiosity drove me to investigate further, hoping to test the vault’s timing without dying. Normally, auto-saves would have preserved my progress. But I lost over 30 minutes searching, erasing all my saved attempts. This happened before I started saving more frequently or at all in Fallout titles, leaving me without any manual backups. Suddenly, 70+ hours vanished. Then I tried again after a while, determined to finish. I finally reached the EDEN device. But I wasn’t aware of the hidden challenges until I was at the door, desperate to get it. My companion was missing, and the last manual save I made was over a month prior. Checking the manual guide, I saw that if you immediately head to the base after collecting the device, your companion remains outside with it—but only if you act fast. If not, he might leave or disappear, breaking the sequence and preventing a successful completion. I own part of the blame for choosing this path, since I didn’t anticipate such obstacles. Although it was a mistake, I believe the developers should have foreseen these scenarios. The Fallout series and Bethesda as a whole seem to lack serious QA, which explains the issues I faced. A few small problems are human, but the frequency and severity suggest deeper concerns about their approach.

Discussing the Eden sequence, avoid using the console to kill General Autumn—it completely breaks the game. I’ve also observed some oddities since they haven’t accounted for all playstyles.

I was attempting a full run through without using a console. Back then I wasn’t familiar with technical details. That was definitely not my style.
