I noticed GTA V running on the alienware Alpha base model, so I went ahead and purchased it to try playing myself. The FPS fluctuates between 70 and 1 each time I play, even at the lowest settings with everything off and on normally. Any advice? Also, I’ve downloaded the newest GPU drivers, just in case that helps.

Don't discuss alienware... The GTX 860m with 2GB VRAM could be the issue. The 4GB RAM might also be causing problems. Open Task Manager to check if memory usage is the problem.

You might be using a setting with limited RAM.

Resolution stays consistent at 800x600 with normal or off settings, except for V-Sync. Shadows appear sharp, and in story mode I kept population and traffic density low. My monitor displays 1680x1050, which felt very poor. The odd part is that others with the same exact model run the game smoothly.

You might see shadows because of resource constraints. Adjust settings on solid or Nvidia PCSS and monitor RAM usage.

Adjust the autoscan music in your audio settings. This helped eliminate the stuttering issue on your 780.

That's all I needed. Disabling autoscan was the key to ending the persistent issue.
