Plastic circuit board with four-pin power connector made from melted plastic
I'm trying to fix a new NAS build using parts from around the house. Some power connectors on my motherboard are damaged and melted, so I need a way to remove the melted plastic without harming the board. I'm hoping you can suggest a method that works safely for plugging in the new power supply. Thanks!
The only chance of this happening was if you used a processor with more than 155 watts while connecting it with just the 4-pin adapter. Luckily you avoided any damage. The safest option is to remove the old connector and install a new one from a compatible motherboard.
The 4-pin connector had to carry all the current alone. It would have been better to use 8 pins to distribute the load across the cables. If the cables can't handle the stress, they can melt. Note: I also realized it isn't a true 4-pin connector—only two pins are active, meaning just those two bear the intended eight-pin load.
