I just began playing Planetside 2 and noticed some performance issues. My PC has an overclocked GTX 970 and an i5 4690k at stock settings. I was seeing framerates drop from the high 40s to the low 60s even when everything was on high. I should mention that Skype was running in the background, but it wasn’t affecting my PC at all—other games I tried worked fine. The low frame rate was unexpected because the textures looked very low resolution, especially at higher settings. I also had random black screens that would pause the game briefly. Not due to a driver crash or unstable settings. Is this something typical?

Check CPU and GPU activity while playing; see if there are any unusual spikes.

It seems I was using V-Sync settings. When I turned it off, my frame rate jumped to 120 FPS instantly. Interestingly, my GPU usage stayed between 70 and 98, even though I had V-Sync on. I’m also puzzled about why I get 48-60 FPS with V-Sync active versus over 100 without it.

Your GPU performance remains subpar, with usage staying near zero despite high demand.

PS2 demands a lot from the processor. For additional speed, overclocking your CPU can help.

Adjusting V-sync lowers your frame rate to match the monitor's refresh speed, reducing screen tearing. It's usually safe to turn it off unless needed.
