I have two adjacent rooms where I want to run Ethernet cables directly through the wall. I measured the thickness as about 5 inches. My idea was to use this small device to pass straight through. I'm hoping someone else can offer advice or solutions for a similar situation. Thanks for taking the time to read!

You recently worked on a project using brushed wall plates. I think placing the second hole precisely could complicate the suggested assembly.

It would suit well. Keystone wall plates would enhance the appearance. But this would increase expenses and difficulty. Since the cables are long, adding Ethernet might be a practical option.

If there close by, go through your current electrical plug outlets. As long as one is free there is enough space to run the cable through the wall to the nearest outlet in the other room. If the outlets are further apart than you can reach easily, you can usually fish it through with a wire coat hanger from the other room. In either case, do it during the day so that when you turn off the power you'll be able to see what you're doing easily

Avoid making it too tough. Use a long drill bit and something like the Milescraft drill block to maintain a roughly right angle. Keep it close enough. Begin small, insert a wire, and use a level to compare hole heights and tweak as needed for perfection.

Be careful around young people and students (check with knock or a stud finder). Avoid drilling near electrical outlets.

Thanks for the updates! I looked inside the outlet box but found no space for additional routing. I also checked the old phone line cover, and it seems there’s nothing leading back to the box. It looks like I can pass through here to the other side of the wall. After the holidays, I’ll check with my landlord to confirm. There are already a few empty covers on the wall, so we’ll find out soon enough.

When other options don’t work, you can switch to powerline adapters.
