From a legal standpoint, owning the item on the platform you're seeking might be acceptable. This rule doesn't hold for other platforms. I'm not a lawyer, so please verify this independently. Yada yada

What you're saying mirrors the debate around emulation... if you own the game, that's okay. But those who don't have it will still download it anyway. I've got friends who play all the latest titles but never buy them... personally, piracy is wrong for any reason. It's up to you when it comes down to it.
