Ping thing
Ping thing
Increasing your upload speed could potentially lower your ping if there are network delays.
It seems the main problem was with ping, not the download speed. Back then, 8/2mb internet connections were common.
You could achieve a 200Mbps upload with less than 500ms latency. The limitation comes from copper connections; lower ping means you need fiber or proximity to the server.
Ping and bandwidth are distinct concepts. They typically rise and fall together because improvements in one often benefit the other automatically. Ping tracks latency—the speed at which messages travel and are acknowledged. Bandwidth, on the other hand, indicates the capacity to transmit data at once. You might be able to transfer large volumes quickly, but the return journey is slow, or send minimal data rapidly. Adjusting one does not necessarily affect the other; you can't exchange them directly.
