Decided to implement a major upgrade in my lab setup... switched from PiHole to AdGuard Home (both hosted under proxmox as LCX). I rarely share casual updates here, but I’m really impressed. The main benefit is the built-in encrypted DNS configuration, which was what motivated this switch. The interface feels clean and straightforward compared to PiHole, making it a solid choice for an afternoon project!

Under lxc it works fine. The openwrt router functions identically, running on both the physical device and my workstation where pfsense is hosted in a VM on proxmox. Great to have switched!

I previously used PFSense both as my primary router/firewall and in a virtual environment, but have now switched to a full Unifi setup. It has been excellent. PFSense works well, but Unifi is significantly simpler and more user-friendly. To enhance DNS filtering, I’ve configured my AdGuard IP for DNS via DHCP, which performs perfectly. You can also run AdGuard inside a Docker container, but for network-wide infrastructure services I avoid adding Docker networking.
