Both configurations will include integrated graphics. If you're concerned about heavy layers, the AMD chip should help more than just adding another 2GB of RAM. However, a bigger memory size still offers benefits.

Both should manage 3 to 4 layers without trouble, and when I mention many layers, I mean a few dozen.

Man, that's not great. If he's just doing light tweaks, AMD could improve a bit (and adding more RAM helps), but building a full desktop would be better. Neither option is impressive. Check this out if he's really committed to one: http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/81/AMD_...5200U.html
