Photoshop is making my computer slow and glitchy now.
Hi, I have a really weird problem. After using Photoshop for about an hour, my PC starts lagging and stuttering. The issue is best seen when moving the mouse. The movement feels smooth normally, but acts up when I hover over interactive things in programs or move past window borders. Music also gets weird; it speeds up and slows down instead of playing at a steady pace. It feels like games have memory leaks.
The main problem happens even after closing Photoshop and stopping all related apps on my tablet and Adobe. Restarting the PC fixes it, but it comes back soon after running Photoshop again. This only happens with me using Photoshop right now; I haven't seen this in other programs so far. I game a lot here, so it's annoying.
I just changed my Windows to a new SSD one day ago and left my old hard drives alone (they mostly store media). The problem started appearing recently, but I don't think recent driver or software updates caused it. I tracked my processes and hardware activity when the issue happened, but nothing showed up as struggling. There was no spiking or high usage; everything just read out as "working fine."
Someone mentioned a corrupt brushset earlier, which fits my timeline. But that doesn't fit well because the problem keeps coming back even after killing all those processes. I will check if turning off the brushes helps tomorrow. Since this is what I do for my job and needs fixing fast, I'm posting anyway to see if anyone else had a similar issue before. Thanks for your help; I'll update once I test more thoroughly.
You didn't tell me what make or model of PSU you have. Tell me how old it is too. What BIOS version do you run on your motherboard? Which Windows 10 edition are you using? Where did you get the installer for that OS from? While we figure this out, turn off Disk Defragmentation and stop Drive Indexing, then check if the problem goes away.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll tell you if disabling Indexing and Defrag makes a difference. The PSU is an EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750, which I used since July 2015. My BIOS was version 7704, and I updated it to 8101 just now - so I haven't seen if this change has made any difference yet. The OS is Windows 10 Pro, build number 19043.1348. I used Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, which came from https://www.microsoft.com/sv-se/software.../windows10
So I tried all kinds of fixes. I took away extra software like brushes and defragging, turned off indexing, updated my BIOS. Nothing worked. Same problem keeps coming back. I even looked at running tasks to see if something was causing it, but nothing came up there either. Photoshop crashed again for the first time since forever, though that might just be a random glitch.
It looks like the problem is still happening even after I fixed things. But sometimes an error would pop up saying I didn't have MSVCP140.dll and VSRUNTIME140.dll when opening my PC before switching to W11. This started because Creative Cloud needed those files. I think just fixing the C++ redistributables and reinstalling Creative Cloud worked, so it started working again. I took out all of them from my computer and got fresh copies from Microsoft's website. We'll see if that solves anything too... Are there any other ideas to be extra sure?
You probably needed to reinstall .NET, but you can also add .NET 2.0 and 3.5 if they are missing. Another way is to go back and reinstall via the Add/Remove Windows Features option.
Hey, I am here but not much to say because you have exactly the same problem too. However, just wanted to add my two cents. When I started using it back when I updated from 2019 CC, my PC was very slow with any version after that one. Even if all programs were running under 20% usage, Photoshop would still be laggy. I had to restart the computer every time just to get things working properly. This happened with every single Photoshop update since then and now I am curious if anything will work so I will try them out too. If we can't fix this issue or figure it out, I highly recommend going back to 2019 CC. And please tell me your computer specs because that might help a lot!
I'm going to tell you anyway I talked with Adobe support they said just download the NVIDIA drivers straight from their site instead of using the GeForce app and that even if the version numbers were the same it actually solved the problem. I don't know why exactly but hope this works for you too
Sorry I haven't been posting lately, thanks for checking in. Yeah that sounds like a weird thing - did you delete the GeForce app? I use that for taking pictures of highlights, but if this helps then it might be worth trying. It takes hours to tell me if it fixes anything, so I'll let you know tomorrow.
