I acquired the latest Mac Mini M4, which is quite powerful overall. However, one factor pushed me toward this purchase was the sluggish performance of my older 2013 MacBook Pro. Additionally, I handle a large collection—over 50,000 photos—in the Photos app. After transferring my external SSD photo library (with a backup in place), it functioned initially, but now I can’t import any images. The drag-and-drop option is completely useless. When I try to import a folder, I select the desired album and choose the photos, yet nothing happens after the import button is pressed. I’ve explored various online solutions, but nothing resolves the issue. This functionality is crucial. Moreover, my Mac Mini feels odd in many aspects—my new Apple USB-C Touch ID keyboard is slow, the touchpad lacks the precision of my previous MacBook Pro 2013, and overall speed is noticeably lower. While the new model excels in responsiveness for apps and general use, it doesn’t quite deliver the experience I expected. This situation has been frustrating, especially since I relied on Apple products before. I used to enjoy my iPhone but had to discontinue due to call issues that Apple dismissed. My phone calls now stutter, and even typing feels sluggish because of lag and poor wireless connection. Connecting via USB Ethernet didn’t help either; the connection remained weak at 10MB/s compared to my MacBook’s 120MB/s and Windows PC’s 150MB/s. The initial software update took four hours—longer than I expected, though I thought it would be faster. Now I’m considering giving up on this Mac Mini and possibly getting another MacBook Pro. I really need help fixing the photo import problem, as it’s essential for managing my library. Thanks for your understanding.

It seems like the setup might have gone wrong. There’s probably a straightforward way to reinstall macOS that could resolve the issue. Good luck!

It's still unfamiliar with this product—being brand new means I'm unsure why a reinstall is necessary. I've tried setting up new libraries, but nothing works. It's also unclear how to get them working properly.
